Update on session idea for AGU Fall meeting

19 Apr 2016

Hi Folks,
A nice discussion took place here at the Force2016 conference with the AGU Pubs Director, Brooks Hanson, about the idea of a Legal Interop of Research Data session at the Fall 2016 AGU meeting. There is a great opportunity to contribute to one of the several research data programs that Brooks' office is planning, either in Town Hall format or some other all-conference venue. Brooks suggested that we email him with a little write up of the proposed session and he is happy to see where it might fit. Also we discussed the good possibility of a piece about the group's principles and guidelines being published in the AGU Weekly, EOS.
Not sure what the next steps are, but wanted to confirm that things look good for a presentation from this group at AGU Fall 2016, and that working directly with Brooks seems to be the right path forward.
Best wishes from Force2016 in beautiful downtown Portland!
Gail

    Hi Gail
As an update, Jean-Bernard and a couple of stalwarts have already put together a session on legal interoperability that they are proposing to submit to Public Affairs.
Apart from the fact that this is probably the most appropriate place for it, papers in public affairs do not count for the one author rule and it is hoped that this will garner more interest for submissions, particularly this is not usually a topic that is usually on the agenda at AGU.
It is highly likely that ESSI will also support this session.
    Take care
    Lesley

Thanks for the update, Lesley. Sounds like things have moved quickly in the last couple of days.
On our weekly telecom of last Friday, both Jean-Bernard and Bob Chen indicated that it would be helpful to check in with Brooks while at Force11 to see which path would make the most sense.
Sounds like there has been a change in thinking, so I shall bow out.
    Good luck!
    Gail
